About this role
A full-time Utility Operator role based in Akwa Ibom with SEEPCO, a premier oil, gas and fertilizer production company. The position focuses on operating and optimising utility generation and distribution systems that feed the ammonia synthesis process, including boilers, feed water treatment, cooling towers, instrument air compressors and nitrogen plants. The role requires adherence to a strong safety culture, asset integrity, energy efficiency and reliability-centred maintenance, using digital work management systems to prevent utility trips. The candidate should have substantial experience in large-scale process facilities and be capable of handling start-ups, normal operations and emergency shutdowns. The employer operates a world-class integrated facility and offers rotation-based, full-time employment with progression opportunities.
What you would do
- Operate, monitor and optimise boiler systems (HP/MP/LP) and BFW treatment.
- Manage cooling towers and instrument/plant air compressors.
- Oversee nitrogen generation units and related utilities to ensure continuous supply to the ammonia plant.
- Control fuel gas reception and distribution and optimise combustion for efficiency and emissions.
- Execute complex start-ups, routine operations and emergency shutdowns per SOPs.
- Collaborate with the Ammonia Process team to manage utility demands during process changes.
- Drive energy optimisation and sustainability through boiler combustion and cooling tower management.
- Monitor nitrogen distribution networks for purging, blanketing and instrument air backup.
- Utilise CMMS to raise, track and close work orders and manage spare parts.
- Support Reliability-Centered Maintenance and Turnaround activities with other teams.
What they are asking for
- OND, HND, BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Power Plant Engineering, or recognised advanced technical certification in Utility/Power Plant Operations.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on operational experience as a Panel/Field Operator in utility/power plant operations within large-scale ammonia, fertiliser, petrochemical, refinery or gas processing plants.
- Experience operating high-pressure boilers, cooling water systems, instrument air compressors and nitrogen plants.
- Understanding of thermodynamics, steam/water cycles, combustion and cooling tower water chemistry.
- Ability to read P&IDs, utility balance diagrams, steam trap layouts and cause-and-effect matrices.
- Familiarity with DCS/SCADA systems and advanced process control concepts for boiler optimisation.
- Valid HSE certifications (Level 1, 2, and 3) and awareness of Process Safety Management; specialisations in high-pressure boiler operation or rotating equipment are advantages.
- BOSIET/HUET and offshore medical clearance if applicable.
