About this role

A Transmission Engineer is needed to support the availability, performance and improvement of the SDH, DWDM and optical transmission network for a leading regional telecoms and broadband provider. The role involves supporting network operations, troubleshooting, maintenance and deployment of new transmission infrastructure to ensure service quality and resilience. The position is based in Ibadan, Oyo, and reports to the Transmission Manager within the NOC, Field Engineers, IP Engineering teams and third‑party transmission providers. The employer operates a transmission backbone supporting broadband, voice and data services across residential and enterprise segments.

What you would do

• Ensure SDH and transmission operating procedures are applied and maintained across teams.
• Provide second‑level escalation support for transmission incidents and major service degradations.
• Troubleshoot backbone, metro and long‑haul transmission issues with field teams, vendors and carriers.
• Support provisioning and commissioning of new customer and backbone circuits.
• Monitor network performance and produce weekly and monthly operational reports.
• Carry out planned and emergency maintenance on transmission infrastructure.
• Validate new fibre and transmission infrastructure delivered by suppliers and contractors.
• Participate in design and implementation of SDH/DWDM transmission projects and long‑haul deployments.
• Coordinate with IP engineering teams for end‑to‑end service delivery and network integration.
• Support cross‑functional collaboration to ensure service quality and network resilience.

• CCNA or JNCIA certification is required; CCNP or JNCIP is an advantage.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in telecommunications network operations or transmission engineering.
• Strong knowledge of SDH, DWDM, optical transmission and IP networks.
• Experience with network monitoring tools such as MRTG, RRD, NAGIOS and SNMP.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Basic Linux administration and command‑line experience.
• Ability to work in a 24x7 operational environment and participate in on‑call rotations.
