Trading Engineer
About this role
Busha Digital LTD is seeking an experienced Trading Engineer to work on the engineering behind a live cryptocurrency exchange in Lagos. The role focuses on owning and improving systems that process orders, match trades, and support exchange operations, with emphasis on production reliability, speed and accuracy. Candidates should understand trading systems and how to build scalable, real-time platforms, and will shape the platform architecture while collaborating with product, engineering and DevOps teams. The position involves developing backend components for trading capabilities, including the matching engine, order books, APIs, market data, and risk and recovery safeguards. The role requires hands-on work in a live production environment and ongoing performance and reliability improvements.
What you would do
- Own and operate the Busha Pro exchange in production and harden it
- Design, build and optimise backend systems powering trading features
- Develop and enhance matching engine components, order books, order processing and trade execution workflows
- Maintain deterministic matching under peak load and prevent stale state
- Build reliable, low-latency systems handling high transaction volumes
- Work on REST, WebSocket APIs and later FIX, real-time data and event-driven services
- Improve performance, reduce latency and identify bottlenecks
- Benchmark, profile and load-test trading paths against realistic traffic
- Implement safeguards for order processing, risk checks, circuit breakers and failover
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering and DevOps to deliver priorities and participate in reviews
What they are asking for
- 5-7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend focus
- Proficiency in Go or strong experience in Rust, C++ or Java and willing to work primarily in Go
- Hands-on experience with trading systems, exchange infrastructure or real-time transaction processing
- Understanding of order books, lifecycles, matching logic and trade execution
- Experience building systems with performance, concurrency, reliability and data consistency requirements
- Experience with low latency, high availability and heavy load environments
- Strong knowledge of data structures, databases and distributed systems
- API design experience, event-driven services and scalable backend architectures
- Experience in production environments including on-call and incident response
- Familiarity with Linux internals and TCP/UDP networking
