About this role
The Kano State SAPZ program is hiring a Technical Assistant to support the Environment and Climate Change Safeguards Officer in Kano. The 12-month assignment (with possible extension) focuses on E&S safeguards work for the SAPZ program, including instrument reviews, monitoring and capacity-building for staff.
What you would do
- Standardise and update parameters for documenting project E&S data using templates to track performance
- Review draft E&S safeguards instruments and action plans prepared by SAPZ states
- Organise and conduct scheduled E&S compliance monitoring visits to participating state projects
- Develop a comprehensive E&S management and monitoring framework and plan
- Maintain and update the E&S project progress tracker
- Provide technical support for E&S workshops, training and capacity-building for project officers and staff
What they are asking for
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Environment and Social Sustainability and in reviewing E&S safeguards instruments for development partner projects related to agro-industrialisation
- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, sociology, agricultural economics or a related field; or a university degree with specialised experience in E&S policy and procedures
- Experience working with development financial institutions is an advantage
- At least 5 years of extensive experience in agricultural infrastructure projects
- Experience in environmental and social impact assessment, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services; donor-funded project experience preferred
- Strong report writing and presentation skills; understanding of stakeholder engagement and ability to conduct independent review of E&S policies and procedures
