Terminal Yard Dispatcher

The role is for a Yard Dispatch Officer at a bonded terminal in Lagos, working within UUL Global's logistics and transportation operations. The position focuses on coordinating and monitoring movement, positioning and dispatch of cargo, containers and vehicles in the terminal yard. The successful candidate will ensure accurate documentation, timely dispatch, yard efficiency, and compliance with safety, security and terminal procedures.

What you would do

• Coordinate movement, positioning and dispatch of containers, cargo and vehicles within the terminal yard
• Ensure cargo and containers are identified, tracked and released according to approved instructions
• Liaise with truck drivers, fleet operators, terminal personnel and relevant departments to support dispatch operations
• Verify dispatch documentation, cargo release instructions and gate passes before exit authorization
• Monitor truck entry/exit, loading/offloading activities and turnaround times
• Maintain records of container movements, dispatch activities and yard transactions
• Ensure compliance with bonded terminal regulations, safety standards and security procedures
• Report discrepancies, delays, damaged cargo and other operational issues promptly
• Support efficient yard utilisation and orderly positioning of containers and vehicles
• Prepare routine dispatch reports and update operational records as required

• 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in yard dispatch, shipping, logistics, haulage or terminal operations
• OND, HND or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain Management or related discipline (advantage)
• Basic understanding of container handling, cargo dispatch procedures and terminal operations
• Familiarity with dispatch documentation, gate passes, cargo release procedures and truck movement coordination
• Good record-keeping, communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and coordinate with drivers and field personnel
• Knowledge of bonded terminal operations and relevant customs procedures (added advantage)
