About this role
Role: State Helpdesk Officer for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Adamawa. It is a one-year renewable contract to operate the state‑level help desk, respond to enquiries from prospective and enrolled participants and partners, and provide information on eligibility, procedures and available support under the Youth Agribusiness programme. The role includes outreach activities and coordination with state teams, with a focus on engaging young women, persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth.
What you would do
- Operate the state-level programme help desk in person, by phone or through other channels and respond to enquiries from prospective and enrolled participants, community members and partners.
- Provide accurate information on programme eligibility, application procedures, training schedules, Youth Agribusiness Park access, and available support services (finance linkage, starter kits, mentorship).
- Receive, log and route participant and community feedback, questions and complaints to the appropriate focal point following the complaints and safeguarding procedures.
- Support outreach and community sensitisation activities to raise programme awareness, particularly among young women, persons with disabilities and internally displaced youth.
- Maintain an up-to-date log/database of enquiries, referrals and resolutions for reporting and continuous improvement purposes.
- Assist with registration, attendance tracking and basic support during training sessions, cohort enrolment and Youth Agribusiness Park events.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Communications, Development Studies, Agriculture or a related field.
- At least two years of experience in customer service, community engagement, front desk operations or a similar public-facing role; NGO or development programme preferred.
- Fluency in English and local language(s) of the state, with ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital tools for recording and reporting enquiries.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to handle sensitive conversations with discretion.
- Willingness to travel locally within the state/district and uphold integrity and confidentiality.
