About this role
Mozilla’s Thunderbird project is seeking a Staff Full-Stack Product Engineer for Thunderbolt, an open-source AI client for enterprises. The role focuses on shipping production-grade features, integrations, and customer-specific customisations, working closely with technical partners and enterprise customers to translate their environments into working software. You will support pilots and early deployments, diagnose complex issues across multiple layers, and maintain customer-specific customisations over time. The position involves collaborating with product and engineering to turn customer requests into reusable product capabilities and contributing to deployment guidance and runbooks. The work aims to integrate AI-enabled capabilities while upholding security, reliability, and maintainability in enterprise deployments.
What you would do
- Build and ship full-stack features, integrations, and customer-specific customisations in the Thunderbolt codebase from front-end UI to APIs and deployment configuration
- Work directly with technical partners and enterprise customers to understand environments and translate them into technical plans and software
- Support pilots, proofs of concept, and early production deployments, including partner-hosted and customer-controlled environments
- Diagnose and fix complex issues across application, infrastructure, identity and access, integration, and data-access layers
- Maintain customer-specific customisations as the core product evolves
- Identify customer requests that should become general product capabilities and collaborate with product and engineering to generalise them
- Provide deployment feedback to roadmap and prioritisation discussions
- Create documentation, deployment guidance, and runbooks for partner self-sufficiency
- Apply AI-assisted development tools judiciously to balance speed with quality, security, and maintainability
What they are asking for
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with staff-level scope and impact
- Strong full-stack skills using modern TypeScript/JavaScript, front-end frameworks, and back-end services and integrations
- Direct experience working with customers, partners, or systems integrators in a technical role where coding was involved
- Experience building or supporting AI-enabled applications or related systems
- Solid understanding of enterprise deployment concerns including authentication, identity providers, access control, self-hosted/hybrid infrastructure, observability, and reliability
- Judgment on when to customise vs generalise or push back on requests
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders about capabilities and limitations
- Strong collaboration with product managers, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders
- Ability to operate independently in an early-stage product environment
