About this role
Supabase is hiring a Software Engineer for its branching/CI pipeline platform. The role focuses on designing and building distributed systems to run CI/CD pipelines at scale, including orchestration of ephemeral compute environments and job scheduling across multiple workers. The engineer will work on core orchestration, sandboxed environments on cloud infrastructure, and tooling to define and inspect pipelines in code. This position suits someone who thrives in async, fast-paced settings and wants to build developer tools for scale. The employer operates a fully remote, globally distributed team offering equity and a range of benefits.
What you would do
- Design and improve the core orchestration engine for Supabase Branches lifecycle (creation, merging, rebasing).
- Provision ephemeral, sandboxed execution environments on EKS/ECS for untrusted build workloads with secret management.
- Implement job scheduling capable of handling thousands of concurrent builds.
- Optimize pipelines with caching, artifact storage, and dependency reuse.
- Manage retry, timeout, cancellation, and failure propagation to ensure predictable pipelines.
- Instrument pipelines with observability tools to surface traces, metrics, and logs.
- Develop configuration files (JSON/TOML) and integrations (Terraform/Pulumi) to define, trigger, and inspect pipelines in code.
What they are asking for
- Strong software engineering skills in Go and TypeScript.
- 3+ years of experience building and operating cloud infrastructure or distributed systems at scale.
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure with familiarity in AWS; experience with AWS SDKs and IaC tools (Pulumi, Terraform) preferred.
- Production operations mindset with a track record of reliable, observable, maintainable systems.
- Ownership mindset with ability to operate independently with high-level guidance.
- Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in async or globally distributed teams.
- Interest in solving real-world problems for developers and navigating ambiguity.
