About this role
Supabase is seeking a Software Engineer for AI Tooling Infrastructure to build and run the backend services behind its AI products. The role focuses on systems and infrastructure, not product AI development, and involves owning services such as the MCP server, authentication, observability, and reliability. You will work with multiple teams and participate in on-call incidents, ensuring the services scale and remain secure and observable. This position is suitable for someone who can thrive in async, fast-paced environments and wants to build developer tools that scale to millions of users. The role is fully remote with global hiring.
What you would do
- Build and operate the production backend services behind Supabase’s AI products, including deployment, scaling, configuration and release
- Restructure or split services to improve safety and ease of changes
- Define and meet reliability targets, set SLOs with the SRE team, and manage error budgets
- Participate in on-call rotations and act as a first responder for incidents
- Assist with the support queue and convert recurring issues into fixes
- Own authentication and authorization for AI and agent clients, including OAuth apps and tokens
- Own observability for services, including metrics, traces, logs, dashboards and alerts
- Manage capacity and abuse for agent traffic with rate limits and safety controls
- Improve service architecture as the team grows, including further service segmentation
- Collaborate with Platform and SRE teams on code, release processes, and infrastructure
What they are asking for
- 5+ years of experience building and running backend services in production with on-call experience
- Proficient in TypeScript or Go, with comfort in the other language
- Experience designing and operating APIs with versioning, error handling, rate limiting, and backward compatibility
- Knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, JWT and API authorization
- Good understanding of PostgreSQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, containerised deployments, and infrastructure as code
- Ability to debug across services using metrics, traces and logs
- Strong written communication and ability to work with diverse, globally distributed teams
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving quickly
- Specialisation in one of APIs and auth, Operations, or Gateways and distributed systems
