Software Architect

About this role

Fingerprint is seeking its first dedicated Software Architect to guide cross-cutting architecture for a fully remote engineering organisation. The role involves owning end-to-end architecture, raising design and reliability standards, and creating durable processes and decisions that scale across multiple engineering groups. You will report to the VP of Engineering and work with Staff and Lead engineers to ensure architectural consistency and adoption across teams. What you would do

• Build and maintain the end-to-end architecture picture, including data flows and service boundaries, and update it as the organisation evolves.
• Identify systemic risks in scaling, reliability, and cost across the pipeline and drive changes to prevent incidents.
• Define direction for API design and service patterns across REST, SDK, and MCP surfaces.
• Shape and lead foundational initiatives (e.g., cell architecture, multi-region readiness, rate limiting, feature flag infrastructure).
• Act as a full-time technical lead across the engineering organisation, driving decisions to closure and ensuring adoption across teams.
• Collaborate with Engineering leadership to prioritise cross-cutting work and align with team roadmaps.
• Mentor Staff-level engineers in system design, writing, and influence to raise organisational standards.
• Strengthen design review practices and codify standards for observability, quality, security-by-design, and API evolution.
• Translate business trajectory into a multi-quarter technical strategy and sequence the work.
• Prototype, write reference implementations and documentation, and engage with production when needed.

• Track record of leading through influence and driving adoption of standards across an organisation.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and high-throughput, low-latency backend architecture (Go or similar language; Kubernetes/AWS; event-driven and data-intensive systems).
• Experience designing public APIs and SDKs at scale, including versioning and multi-surface consistency.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate systemic risk and take proactive action.
• Exceptional written communication and ability to document decisions for engineers and executives.
• AI-native approach to design and coding, with experience using AI tools to accelerate engineering work.
• Architectural thinking for an AI-assisted organisation, including clear contracts and automated verification.
• Pragmatism in balancing long-term architecture with delivery pressures.
• Willingness to be the first dedicated role of this kind and earn trust across teams.
