About this role
Supabase is a fully remote Postgres development platform. The Site Reliability Engineer will help improve reliability across the organisation by shaping practices, frameworks, and feedback loops so engineering teams can own reliability themselves. The role involves working with service teams to define SLIs/SLOs, managing operational readiness reviews, and driving improvements from postmortems and incident analysis. It requires influencing across a distributed team and helping design sustainable on-call practices and automation to reduce toil. The position is suitable for someone with substantial SRE experience who can operate in async, fast-paced environments and impact engineering decisions.
What you would do
- Partner with service teams to define SLIs and SLOs based on customer experience and implement error budget policies
- Own and evolve the Operational Readiness Review process for new services and major changes
- Strengthen the incident-to-improvement pipeline by linking postmortems to readiness gaps and systemic fixes
- Act as the reliability expert in architecture reviews, failure mode analysis, and resilience design
- Identify operational toil and advocate for automation to eliminate it
- Help teams design sustainable on-call practices including alert quality and runbook coverage
- Establish and track organisational operational maturity and drive remediation across the team
What they are asking for
- 7+ years in SRE, production engineering, or reliability-focused roles
- Software engineering mindset with ability to write code and build tools
- Experience defining and operationalising SLOs/SLIs at scale and influencing engineering decisions
- Hands-on incident response experience and ability to turn learnings into systemic improvements
- Experience with large-scale multi-tenant systems (bonus: managed DB platforms or Postgres)
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi preferred; Terraform/CDK acceptable)
- Clear, persuasive communication and ability to influence across a distributed organisation
- Experience working in async or globally distributed teams
- Energised by making other teams more effective rather than owning all fixes
