Senior Site Reliability Engineer
About this role
Senior Site Reliability Engineer role at Moniepoint to engineer the reliability of a highly distributed platform. You will define SLOs, lead incident response, and build automation and self-healing systems to support scalable growth. The role targets an experienced SRE or backend engineer with strong coding skills in Java, Go, Rust or Python.
What you would do
- Lead on-call rotations as the primary technical lead and incident commander during major incidents.
- Instrument code to expose high-cardinality metrics and distributed traces, and collaborate to define, measure and defend SLOs and error budgets.
- Write production-ready code in Java, Go or Python to build internal tooling, automation, and self-healing mechanisms.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering during design to embed reliability, scalability and observability patterns from day one.
- Analyse system performance and traffic to forecast capacity and conduct load testing and chaos engineering to verify resilience.
What they are asking for
- At least 5 years' experience in SRE or backend engineering with strong coding skills in Java, Go, Rust or Python.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems architecture and design patterns, including microservices, event-driven architectures and scaling principles.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or other cloud providers (AWS/Azure); proficient in running production workloads on Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and troubleshooting cluster/infrastructure issues.
- Experience designing observability strategies using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, New Relic, Datadog or SigNoz.
- Familiarity with operating and tuning production data stores such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and streaming platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ in high-throughput environments.
