Senior Shipping Master
About this role
A leading Maritime and Oil Logistics Operator in Africa seeks a highly experienced Senior Shipping Master based in Nigeria, with a strong background in vessel operations, especially oil barging, and broad competence in operations, HSE, commercial management and fleet administration.
What you would do
- Manage day-to-day operations of the fleet, focusing on oil barging vessels
- Ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently and comply with international and company regulations
- Develop and implement fleet strategies to optimise utilisation, cost efficiency, customer satisfaction and revenue
- Plan operational activities, voyage schedules, maintenance, and crew manning for the oil barging fleet
- Lead and develop the operations and vessel management team to achieve safety and profitability
- Set and monitor fleet goals against KPIs and contribute to expansion and commercial negotiations
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Shipping Management, Logistics or related field
- Post-graduate qualifications or professional maritime certifications (e.g., Master Mariner)
- Minimum 15 years in shipping, vessel operations or maritime management, including at least 8 years in a senior management role over fleets or operations
- Experience managing oil barging vessels and related petroleum logistics assets
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL) and HSE standards
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills with track record of achieving operational targets and profitability
