About this role
The Senior Operator – Ammonia Operations role is with Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO), based in Rivers, Nigeria. The position acts as the technical anchor in the control room and field, operating, monitoring and optimising the ammonia plant while supporting the Shift Supervisor to maintain safe and efficient operations.
What you would do
- Operate and monitor the ammonia plant via the DCS, managing process variables across reforming, shift conversion, CO2 removal, methanation and synthesis.
- Carry out start-ups, shutdowns and rate changes as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
- Execute emergency responses in line with procedures.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting of process upsets, equipment malfunctions and control system alarms.
- Coordinate field operations, verify field readings and validate instrument performance.
- Maintain shift logs, production reports and operations records.
What they are asking for
- HND or BSc in Chemical, Process or related engineering discipline.
- 6 to 10 years of hands-on operations experience, with significant exposure to ammonia or syngas plant operations.
- Proficiency with DCS operations, ammonia synthesis fundamentals, and process safety systems (SIS/ESD).
- Knowledge of steam systems, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors and refrigeration units (as applicable).
- Excellent communication, situation awareness and decision-making under pressure.
