Senior Medical Officer (Family/Internal Medicine/Paediatrics)

About this role

The Senior Medical Officer provides experienced clinical care in family medicine, managing patients independently in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The role includes supporting consultant-led clinics, supervising junior medical officers, and contributing to audits, quality improvement and patient safety within a multidisciplinary team in Lagos.

What you would do

• Provide largely independent assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in family medicine, referring complex cases appropriately.
• Support consultant-led clinics, ward rounds and procedures.
• Supervise and support medical officers and trainees, contributing to their development.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement and patient-safety activities.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other services.

• MBBS or MBChB from a recognised institution.
• Completion of the required national housemanship/internship and NYSC, or valid exemption.
• Minimum of 5 years post-NYSC clinical experience, including progression through Medical Officer grades.
• Current MDCN registration/licence.
• Strong clinical knowledge of family medicine with ability to manage most cases independently.
• Experience supervising and supporting junior medical officers.
