Senior Java Backend Engineer
About this role
Flutterwave in Lagos is seeking Senior Java Backend Engineers to design, implement, maintain and support the backend systems powering its financial products. The role targets professionals with about 5-6 years of Java/JEE/Spring Boot experience, focusing on RESTful APIs, event-driven microservices and data privacy within the payments domain.
What you would do
- Design, develop and deliver code for new features in an agile environment.
- Develop features and RESTful APIs with an event-driven microservice architecture.
- Create database schemas to support new products and enhancements.
- Maintain code quality, performance and security, and ensure data privacy compliance.
- Carry out unit testing and establish automated tests to ensure correctness, robustness and scalability.
- Mentor engineers using AI coding assistants to accelerate development.
What they are asking for
- 5-6 years of experience with Java/JEE/Spring Boot and related technologies.
- Hands-on experience with Java 8, multithreading, JVM tuning and performance improvements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; solid data structures and algorithms.
- Knowledge of databases and ORM technologies.
- DevOps knowledge covering source control, CI, configuration management, deployment automation, containers and orchestration, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Nice to have: Node.js, Docker/Kubernetes, Kafka; experience building agent-facing or agent-integrated systems.
