Senior General Manager, Power Plant

About this role

The Senior General Manager, Power Plant will head the plant’s captive power generation and energy management in Lagos, ensuring a 100% reliable, cost-effective and efficient power supply for cement production. The role focuses on operational excellence, sustainability and compliance, and leads energy performance improvements, project delivery, and stakeholder collaboration.

What you would do

• Oversee CPP and WHR operations to ensure uninterrupted power to kilns, grinding units and auxiliaries and maintain optimal plant load factor and efficiency.
• Lead preventive, predictive and shutdown maintenance for boilers, turbines, generators and balance of plant systems to ensure high availability.
• Drive energy efficiency improvements by reducing specific power consumption and improving heat rate; monitor performance dashboards.
• Manage power generation costs and fuel mix; drive cost per kWh reductions and assist with budgeting and forecasting.
• Champion health, safety and environment by promoting a zero harm culture; ensure regulatory and Dangote HSE compliance; lead safety audits and incident investigations.
• Lead power plant expansion, upgrades and sustainability projects; drive WHR optimisation and digital transformation; coordinate with internal teams and external contractors.

What they are asking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• COREN registration (Nigeria) or equivalent; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• 15–20 years of experience in power generation or cement manufacturing.
• Minimum 5–8 years in a leadership role (HOD/GM level).
• Strong experience with captive power plants (CPP) and waste heat recovery (WHR) systems.
• Experience in large-scale continuous process industries.
