What you would do

• Design, build and optimise backend systems for real-time data processing and web services with a focus on reliability, latency and cost.
• Own service level indicators and service level objectives for core API services, using error budgets to balance velocity and stability.
• Develop observability through metrics, structured logs, tracing and alerts.
• Participate in on-call rotation, respond to incidents and conduct blameless postmortems.
• Reduce operational toil via automation and complete action items to prevent recurrence.
• Conduct capacity planning, load testing and performance tuning to scale ahead of demand.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integrations and mentor engineers.

• Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments and mentor junior engineers.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Bonus: knowledge of analytical storage systems, queues/streams, or cost optimisation for high-throughput cloud workloads; bonus: vector databases and ML-adjacent product engineering.
