Senior Data Engineer
About this role
BlueChip Technologies is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a permanent, client-embedded role in Lagos, supporting tier-1 telecom customers. You will build, operate and continuously enhance large-scale open-source lakehouse and analytics platforms, acting as a trusted technical partner to the client.
What you would do
- Design, develop, test and maintain large-scale data pipelines using Kafka, Spark/PySpark, Flink, Airflow, Trino and Iceberg/Delta Lake
- Build and support Bronze, Silver and Gold medallion-layer data pipelines for telecom data at terabyte to petabyte scale
- Design and implement Kimball-aligned dimensional models, including fact and dimension tables, star schemas and SCDs
- Define partitioning strategies, schema evolution and storage optimisation as part of data platform architecture
- Serve as the primary technical contact for client data engineering requirements, participating in client meetings and resolving operational issues within agreed service levels
- Monitor pipelines, investigate data quality issues, and implement monitoring, alerting and observability for production environments
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
- Minimum 6 years' professional data engineering experience, including at least 3 years on large-scale (terabyte/petabyte) data platforms
- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark), Apache Kafka, Apache Airflow, and Iceberg or Delta Lake
- Strong SQL skills and experience designing Kimball-style dimensional models
- Experience building and supporting Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) Lakehouse solutions with robust data quality and reconciliation processes
- Strong Python programming skills for data engineering, automation, testing and pipeline development; experience with Linux and cloud environments
