Senior Credit Underwriter
About this role
The Senior Credit Underwriter role in Lagos oversees manual underwriting for SME, mid‑corporate and large corporate lending, ensuring lending remains within risk appetite and target loss levels. You will work with the Head of Credit Risk Analytics and the Chief Risk Officer to define lending thresholds and support growth, while collaborating with Sales, Product and Data Engineering on strategic initiatives.
What you would do
- Undertake end-to-end credit underwriting across SME, mid‑corporate and large‑corporate loans.
- Perform detailed due diligence on lending applications, including financial analysis and stress testing for large-ticket loans.
- Monitor portfolio health and conduct periodic credit reviews for the sector.
- Drive improvements to the underwriting framework and risk strategy.
- Collaborate with Sales, Product and Data Engineering to support new strategic product initiatives.
- Review credit data to support risk initiatives and pilots.

- Significant experience underwriting SME and Large Corporate loans from a leading Nigerian financial institution in the financial sector.
- End-to-end underwriting experience for large-ticket loans up to 5 billion NGN.
- Expertise in financial assessment of SMEs and Large Corporates using diverse data sources (financials, audited accounts, bank statements).
- Knowledge of macroeconomic and regulatory factors affecting the industry sector.
- Experience assessing collateral and covenants for secured and unsecured lending.
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian compliance and regulatory environment.
