Senior Build Systems Engineer

About this role

Brave is seeking a Senior Build Systems Engineer to join a remote-friendly team. The role focuses on reducing toil and building the automation and processes needed to support Brave reaching hundreds of millions of users across multiple platforms and repositories. The team works asynchronously with no mandatory weekly meetings, no on-call, and allows fully remote or hybrid arrangements. The position involves working with a variety of languages and CI systems to ship builds across desktop and mobile environments. What you would do

• Support and improve build systems and automation for multiple repositories and platforms
• Collaborate with senior engineers to optimise build, release, and testing processes
• Maintain and extend CI pipelines and related tooling
• Participate in end-to-end workflow improvements across teams
• Assist with packaging and distribution for mobile and desktop apps
• Ensure security and quality practices are integrated into builds
• Contribute to performance optimisations in build and test workflows
• Review and integrate code or tooling improvements from generated or AI-assisted sources
• Stay aligned with Brave's privacy and security priorities
• Engage with cross-functional teams to implement best practices

What they are asking for

• 10+ years of experience in automation, CI, build and release engineering, testing and reporting tools, code signing, app stores and distribution, packaging (mobile or desktop)
• Extensive experience with multiple operating systems and architectures (Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows; x86/x64/arm64)
• Experience with AWS and Terraform
• Proficiency in Bash/Shell, Python, Kotlin, or Groovy
• Ability to work with AI-generated code and review it
• Interest in privacy and security
• Product mindset with cross-team collaboration and end-to-end thinking
• Willingness to work in a flexible, autonomous, largely asynchronous environment
• Nice to have knowledge of browser/Chromium, build systems tooling, and automated testing at scale
• Understanding of security and quality scanning (SAST/DAST)
