About this role
OpenZeppelin is seeking a Senior Blockchain Security Developer to join the Canton Network engagement. The role involves designing, implementing, and auditing components for Daml-based contracts and Canton integrations as part of a multi-year, multi-million-dollar effort to build open-source DeFi foundations for institutional blockchain. You will work with OpenZeppelin security researchers, use AI-native workflows, and contribute to reference implementations and standards in collaboration with partners such as Digital Asset and the Canton Foundation.
What you would do
- Own features of the OpenZeppelin Contracts Library for Daml from design to audit.
- Design and implement components of the year-1 Reference Implementations (privacy-preserving DEX, lending protocol, cross-chain stablecoin settlement, confidential launchpad).
- Implement and shepherd the OZ Daml versions of CIP-56, CIP-86, CIP-103, and future CIPs; coordinate with Digital Asset and ChainSafe.
- Present and defend designs in technical discussions with partners.
- Collaborate with security researchers on threat models, audits, and fixes for owned components.
- Utilise AI systems as core tools for research, design, implementation, testing, and security work; build agents and workflows.
- Contribute developer-experience and security feedback to Canton protocol, Splice, Daml SDK, and Splice Wallet Kernel.
- Research privacy-preserving DeFi and Canton-specific primitives and share findings with the team.
What they are asking for
- Production Daml fluency with understanding of templates, choices, controllers/observers/signatories, and multi-party authorization.
- In-depth Canton architecture knowledge including the Global Synchronizer and private synchronizers; familiarity with CIP-56 and CIP-112.
- 3+ years of production smart contract development experience (Canton or other UTXO-based/privacy-preserving tech).
- Production DeFi experience with primitives like AMMs, vaults, lending, or cross-chain settlement; understanding of standard patterns.
- Security-first mindset with ability to reason adversarially about code; publication of audits or threat models is a plus.
- AI-native workflow familiarity; experience with AI tools for development and security tasks.
- Fluency in English for client-facing communication; able to work autonomously and proactively.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and present technical concepts clearly.
- Nice to have: cryptography/financial engineering background, institutional finance and compliance design experience, experience running an SV or contributing to Splice/Canton tokenomics, cross-chain interoperability exposure, library/SDK API design experience, applying AI to security work, non-EVM ecosystem experience, open-source contributions.
