Senior Backend Engineer - Payments & Integrations
About this role
A Senior Backend Engineer focused on payments and integrations, based in Lagos, to design, build and maintain banking and payment systems for the iRecharge platform. The role targets engineers with experience in Nigeria’s payment landscape, AML/compliance systems, and leading technical initiatives.
What you would do
- Design and maintain NIBSS NIP services such as name enquiry, outward transfers, TSQ, inward credits and reversals
- Integrate AML screening, transaction monitoring, fraud detection, and KYC providers
- Build settlement and reconciliation processes with exception handling
- Lead third-party partner onboarding and technical integration
- Design secure APIs and integration services with authentication, encryption and audit trails
- Monitor payment success rates, latency and integration performance; provide incident diagnosis and production support
What they are asking for
- 3+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Hands-on experience with NIBSS NIP, directly or via aggregator
- Experience building financial or payment integrations in Nigeria
- Experience with AML, fraud detection, transaction monitoring, KYC or other compliance systems
- Strong understanding of payment processing, settlement and reconciliation
- Strong REST API, SQL and secure integration skills; knowledge of encryption, signing, key management and secure handling of personal data
