Senior Backend Engineer Core Banking

About this role

Senior Backend Engineer specialising in core banking, responsible for building and extending secure APIs and core banking services within a Fineract-based system. Targeted at candidates with extensive Java/Spring Boot experience and knowledge of banking requirements and event-driven architectures.

What you would do

• Build secure, scalable REST APIs for bank digital channels and internal systems
• Customise and extend Apache Fineract using its extension points and modules
• Design and maintain core banking services (customers, accounts, transactions, limits, holds, liens, double-entry ledger)
• Design and optimise database structures and migrations (PostgreSQL or MySQL)
• Implement reliable transaction processing with strong data consistency and error handling
• Integrate event-driven services using Kafka or similar messaging technologies

What they are asking for

• 3+ years of backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Demonstrable experience building or integrating Fineract-based core banking solutions
• Strong understanding of core banking, payments, wallets, ledgers or transaction processing
• Experience with event-driven architecture and technologies such as Apache Kafka
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS advantageous)
• Knowledge of Nigerian banking requirements (NUBAN, BVN, KYC, transaction limits) advantageous
