Research Assistant - Oyo
About this role
A Research Assistant is needed for a multicentre study on severe malaria among children and adolescents (0–20 years) in Nigeria. The role supports data extraction from hospital records across 18 facilities, covering 2021–2025, to estimate incidence, presentations, outcomes and trends of severe malaria. The position involves working under the project’s research coordinator and collaborating with Malaria Consortium and partner teams to identify eligible cases and enter data into an electronic system. It is targeted at individuals with health-related diplomas or degrees who are currently working in pediatric or medical wards and have experience with data capture and inpatient care. Candidates resident in the listed LGAs are encouraged to apply.
What you would do
- Identify severe malaria cases from registers and case notes.
- Coordinate with medical records staff to retrieve and send records to the data system.
- Capture demographic, clinical, laboratory, treatment and outcome data into the electronic data collection tool.
- Record study identifiers and facility information for each case.
- Document dates of admission and discharge, diagnoses and outcomes.
- Record treatment details including antimalarial therapies and supportive care.
- Note comorbidities and complications where available.
- Respond to data requests from the project team and partners.
- Ensure data quality and completeness for assigned facility.
- Assist with possible queries related to data extraction.
