About this role
Supabase is seeking a Release Engineer (SRE) to join the Release Engineering team within EngOps. The role focuses on making deployments safe, observable, and recoverable at scale by treating deployment pipelines and the control plane as production systems with SLOs and on-call ownership. You would standardise deployment processes, improve observability, and drive reliability across pre-production and production environments. The position emphasises incident response, blameless postmortems, and building runbooks to reduce toil. The company operates fully remote and offers equity, benefits, and professional development.
What you would do
- Own the reliability of deployment and release systems and the control plane they run on against SLOs and error budgets
- Turn pre-production into trustworthy signal by standardising and instrumenting deployment workflows
- Enhance disaster-recovery readiness and ensure environments can be deployed from scratch
- Build and operate health and SLO monitoring for critical user flows using synthetic testing
- Reduce mean-time-to-detect and mean-time-to-recover for deploy-related incidents
- Participate in on-call, lead blameless postmortems, and turn findings into automation and runbooks
- Improve deployment observability and auditability with clear records of shipped changes
- Document operational procedures, break-glass paths, and access models
- Define and track SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, and delivery metrics with meaningful alerting
- Collaborate with product engineering and platform teams to align release practices with reliability targets
What they are asking for
- 5+ years in SRE, production operations, platform engineering, or release engineering
- Experience operating production systems at scale and on-call experience
- Fluency with SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, DORA metrics, and related observability tools
- Experience incident response and postmortems with tooling (e.g., incident.io, PagerDuty, Opsgenie)
- Proficiency with AWS (multi-account, IAM, VPC)
- Comfort with infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi, Terraform) and Kubernetes
- Ability to script and automate to reduce toil
- Clear communication with infrastructure and product engineers
- Comfort with async, globally distributed teams
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and iteratively improve systems
