About this role
Tetra Maritime in Lagos seeks a quantitatively minded analyst to enhance market intelligence and decision making for tanker and dry bulk markets. The role blends data, markets and strategy with a focus on mispricing detection, market timing, and risk and performance frameworks. The analyst will work on live opportunities, model future scenarios, and help translate outputs into decisions on chartering, hedging, and S&P timing. The position targets someone with a strong quantitative background and an interest in shipping markets, capable of building and testing models and expanding datasets. The employer is a Nigerian ship owner and operator providing solutions across the oil and gas supply chain.
What you would do
- Operate and extend the live terminal of S&P and TC in/out opportunities to identify mispricing.
- Pressure-test baselines behind deals including breakeven, valuation, and forward curves.
- Build quantitative cases for or against opportunities and scale evaluation to hundreds per week.
- Co-develop market timing models to anticipate peaks and troughs in core markets.
- Translate model outputs into actionable decisions for chartering, hedging, and S&P timing.
- Quantify fleet exposure under different market scenarios.
- Evaluate TC-in/TC-out strategies and derivatives overlays.
- Build frameworks for sell/hold decisions and opportunity cost analysis.
- Measure outcomes of decisions on a like-for-like basis and feed insights back into models.
- Curate and expand proprietary datasets and analytical tools to support decision making.
What they are asking for
- 3–5 years in a markets-focused analytical role (e.g., shipping research, commodities/equities research, quant/systematic trading, fund analytics).
- Strong grounding in regression, time-series analysis, probability, and machine learning.
- Ability to reason under uncertainty and validate model assumptions.
- Experience or strong interest in shipping markets; familiarity with market concepts valued.
- Technical proficiency in Python and SQL; ability to read, modify and deploy analytical code.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code) preferred.
- Builder's mindset with ability to iterate quickly from hypothesis to prototype and adapt as needed.
- Comfort with focusing on impact over perfection.
