Protection Volunteer

About this role

The role is for a Protection Volunteer based in Maiduguri, Borno State, for a six month, unpaid volunteer period with possible extension. The organisation focuses on supporting vulnerable households in informal settlements, host communities and IDP camps, and works to implement protection and humanitarian programmes. The volunteer supports protection monitoring, community engagement, GBV and PSEA awareness, and helps identify vulnerable persons for safe referrals to service providers. Applicants should be residents of Borno State with relevant educational qualifications and basic computer skills. Nigerian graduates and NYSC members are encouraged to apply, with opportunities for on‑the‑job training and mentoring.

What you would do

• Assist with protection monitoring and community engagement activities.
• Support awareness sessions on gender-based violence, child protection and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse.
• Identify vulnerable persons and assist with safe, confidential referrals to service providers.

• ON D / HND / BSc in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Law or related field.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in English; ability to speak Hausa and/or Kanuri.
• Understanding of confidentiality and the do no harm principle.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and email).
• Fresh graduates and NYSC members are encouraged to apply.

• Understanding of humanitarian principles is an advantage.
