Project Management Specialist
About this role
The Islamic Development Bank is recruiting a Project Management Specialist in Abuja on a fixed-term contract. The role involves conducting due diligence, coordinating appraisal, implementation, monitoring and completion of development operations to ensure timely and compliant delivery of the bank’s mandate. The position targets candidates with strong project management, development operations, and portfolio monitoring capabilities. The Bank supports development across its member countries and operates through its Abuja Regional Hub.
What you would do
- Conduct technical, financial, procurement, institutional, economic, social and environmental due diligence for assigned projects.
- Prepare and refine appraisal inputs with the Operations Team Leader and sector teams for submission to approving authorities.
- Identify project risks and propose mitigation measures with documented appraisal conclusions.
- Monitor operations against scope, schedule, cost, results and contractual commitments; maintain current records in the operations management system.
- Coordinate with sector, procurement, financial management and disbursement teams to resolve implementation constraints.
- Prepare periodic implementation assessments detailing risks, actions, responsibilities and target dates.
- Provide operational inputs to procurement and disbursement to ensure compliance with Bank requirements.
- Escalate material contractual, fiduciary or resource risks with evidence and options.
- Review project-level contract and financial management information and recommend corrective actions when deviations occur.

- Master's Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Project Management, Engineering, Economics, Development Studies, Business/Public Administration, Finance, Procurement and Supply Chain, Operations Management, Information Systems or related areas).
- Recognised project management certification relevant to the role.
- Experience in a multilateral development bank, development finance institution or equivalent international organisation.
- Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in project management, development operations, project appraisal, implementation monitoring or portfolio management.
