Principal Process Automation Control & Optimization (PACO) Engineer
About this role
The Principal Process Automation Control & Optimization (PACO) Engineer will provide discipline engineering support and technical authority for a new oil and gas project through design, construction and commissioning. Based in Rivers, Nigeria, the role involves leading PACO activities, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders including Shell Group specialists, and ensuring design decisions meet O&M requirements and align with standards and WRFM concepts.
What you would do
- Lead and manage PACO engineers and third-party contractors across design, fabrication, installation and commissioning activities
- Provide technical support to enable project interfaces with asset teams, engineering design contractors, JV partners and regulatory agencies and help resolve inter-disciplinary interface issues
- Ensure all design decisions comply with group standards, blueprints, project management manuals and HSE requirements
- Deliver PACO functionality and benefits aligned with the operation and maintenance philosophy
- Collaborate effectively with engineering design contractor staff and colleagues, maintaining an enterprise-first mindset
- Drive HSE performance in the team in line with business targets and pursue zero incidents in design and technical integrity

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (minimum)
- NSE and COREN membership
- At least 14 years of PACO experience in the oil and gas industry; experience with offshore platforms, FPSOs or onshore terminals is desirable
- Knowledge of HSSE framework and international engineering standards, best practices and systems
- Experience in plant automation, process control and safeguarding, and system integration including third-party packages; familiarity with MAC, especially Emerson DeltaV
- Experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning of PLC, DCS and SIS; design reviews, FAT, iFAT and SAT for vendor packages and telecommunications system integration
