About this role
Supabase is looking for a Platform Engineer to join the Compute Capacity team. The role focuses on managing the capacity plan to keep compute supply ahead of demand across regions and instance families, including forecasting, buffer policy, and provisioning systems. You will build and operate systems to turn capacity plans into provisioned resources, monitor drift, and provide a trustworthy view of capacity across millions of databases. The position involves designing robust, automated infrastructure and contributing to cost management and capacity incident response.
What you would do
- Help build and maintain the capacity plan across regions and instance families
- Support buffer policy by modelling headroom targets and cost tradeoffs
- Automate capacity provisioning, including reservation acquisition, top-up, and fleet reconciliation
- Detect drift between committed and running capacity
- Extend infrastructure as code for capacity provisioning
- Instrument capacity with metrics on saturation, coverage, idle buffer, forecast error, and provisioning latency
- Tune capacity alerting to surface issues months before impact
- Assist with demand gate for large commitments, launches, migrations, and new regions
- Contribute to mitigation projects such as right-sizing and autoscaling improvements
- Participate in capacity incident response and post-incident follow-through
What they are asking for
- 5+ years in infrastructure engineering, SRE, platform, or capacity engineering (ideally at SaaS or cloud scale)
- Production software engineering experience with ownership of a service
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, or Go
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi or Terraform)
- Experience building or maintaining observability with metrics and alerting
- Solid knowledge of AWS EC2, including instance families, purchase options, capacity reservations, and quotas
- Financial fluency with reservation economics and tradeoffs between coverage, utilisation, and cost
- Clear communication across engineers and finance stakeholders
- Ability to work with incomplete forecasts and revise work as assumptions evolve
