About this role
Supabase is looking for an experienced performance engineer to build and run benchmarking and profiling systems. The role focuses on making performance measurement repeatable, defining benchmarks, and producing credible numbers for customers and the market. You will join a new performance team and work with product, infra, and database teams to identify bottlenecks and land performance improvements. The position is fully remote and global. The employer offers ESOP, a tech allowance, health benefits, annual off-sites, flexible working, and a development allowance, among other benefits.
What you would do
- Build and evolve benchmarking, profiling, and load-testing tools for cloud, database, and end-to-end scenarios
- Define benchmark suites and reference workloads reflecting real customer behaviour
- Set performance baselines and regression gates across products
- Create actionable reports and triage workflows from benchmark results
- Collaborate with database teams to identify bottlenecks and drive improvements
- Enable the company to publish credible, repeatable performance numbers
- Help teams self-serve performance testing and treat performance as a core engineering concern
- Develop continuous benchmarking infrastructure for early regression detection
- Analyse and fix issues with load generators and benchmark environments
- Build regression triage tools to pinpoint changes and provide root cause guidance
What they are asking for
- Deep experience in performance engineering, benchmarking, and profiling of complex distributed systems
- Experience owning benchmarking systems with emphasis on reproducibility and variance control
- Strong systems intuition across databases, storage, networking, and cloud infrastructure
- Ability to work across product, infra, and database teams
- Pragmatic, tooling-focused mindset with good communication skills
- Depth in at least one area of Linux kernel internals or database internals
