About this role
The role focuses on designing, developing and testing PCBs and embedded systems for robotics and other hardware products. It involves schematic design, PCB layout, component selection, firmware development and integrating sensors, actuators, and communication modules. The engineer will collaborate with hardware, software and product teams, perform prototyping and debugging, and ensure compliance with standards. The position is full-time and on-site in Nigeria, based in Abuja. The employer is Uniccon Group, aiming to build Africa's economy through innovative technology solutions.
What you would do
- Create schematic designs for PCBs and translate requirements into hardware layouts.
- Design and lay out printed circuit boards and select appropriate components.
- Develop firmware for embedded systems and integrate peripherals such as sensors and actuators.
- Integrate communication modules and motor drivers as needed.
- Prototype, test, debug, and iterate designs based on performance and field feedback.
- Collaborate with hardware, software and product teams to meet requirements.
- Conduct testing procedures and ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
- Support documentation and testing procedures for hardware and software interfaces.
- Perform fault finding and reliability optimization through iterative improvements.
- Assist in ensuring safety, reliability and quality in hardware development.
What they are asking for
- Strong PCB design skills including schematic capture, PCB layout and component selection using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Embedded systems expertise in microcontroller/microprocessor programming, firmware development and peripheral integration.
- Hardware engineering skills in circuit design, signal integrity, power management and debugging with oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Software and programming skills relevant to embedded development (C/C++, basic scripting, version control) and familiarity with RTOS or bare-metal programming.
- Proven testing and validation capabilities including prototyping, functional and stress testing, fault finding and iterative optimization.
- Analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills with ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in robotics, IoT or consumer electronics is beneficial; familiarity with standards and safety regulations is a plus.
