Operations Manager (Remote)

SafeStart Global Inc. is recruiting an Operations Manager (remote) to oversee finance, procurement, supply chain, people operations, and compliance in the US and Nigeria. The role involves setting up and managing processes, including budgeting, donor reporting, payroll support, and supplier management, to ensure reliable delivery of the chlorine access programme. It requires hands-on experience in operations or finance within NGOs or donor-funded programmes, with strong organisational skills and the ability to work remotely across time zones. The organisation runs a Community-Based Chlorine Access project in rural Kano State that distributes low-cost chlorine to households to improve safe water use. The position reports to the co-founder and is full-time and remote.

What you would do

• Run payments, reimbursements, per diems and field cash management within approved budgets and controls
• Keep books up to date in Xero, including coding, reconciliations and month-end close
• Produce monthly budget-versus-actuals reports and cash forecasts, flagging variances
• Prepare financial parts of donor reports and assist with audits and grant compliance
• Manage chlorine procurement, deliveries and third-party warehousing in Kano, plus stock reconciliations
• Procure equipment, services and consultants with quotes, contracts and records
• Maintain asset register and track equipment issued to staff
• Coordinate event procurement, planning and bookings
• Handle contracts, onboarding/off-boarding and staff records in Nigeria
• Support payroll inputs, leave records and HR policy liaison

• At least 4 years in operations, finance or grants management, preferably in NGO, social enterprise or donor-funded work
• Hands-on bookkeeping experience in Xero or similar and strong Excel skills (reconciliations, budgets, forecasts)
• Experience with procurement and inventory management
• Highly organised, process-focused and capable of finishing tasks
• Clear written English and ability to work remotely with limited supervision
• Reliable internet and power where based
