Nuclear Medicine Nurse
About this role
At AMCE Abuja, the Nuclear Medicine Nurse provides specialised nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring patient safety and adherence to radiation safety protocols in collaboration with the nuclear medicine team. The role is for registered nurses with a nursing degree and a valid licence, and at least five years of experience in nuclear medicine.
What you would do
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and verify patient identity, consent, and medical history prior to radiopharmaceutical administration.
- Prepare, handle and administer radiopharmaceuticals via IV, oral or other routes; calculate and verify dosage with pharmacists or technologists; monitor for immediate adverse reactions.
- Maintain aseptic technique and radiation safety; apply ALARA principles; use PPE and shielding; monitor personal radiation exposure.
- Monitor vital signs during uptake and imaging or therapy; provide post-procedure care and educate patients on radiation safety.
- Document all aspects of care in the EHR; ensure regulatory compliance and participate in audits; maintain inventory logs for controlled substances and radioactive materials.
- Collaborate with the nuclear medicine team and referring physicians; provide handover reports and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.

- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a nuclear medicine nurse.
- Registered Nurse with a valid nursing licence.
- Certification in Nuclear Medicine Nursing or Oncology Nursing or relevant post-basic training is preferred.
- Proficiency in intravenous therapy, cardiac monitoring and emergency response.
- In-depth knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation physics and protection principles.
