SRHIN is a nonprofit organisation working across Africa to improve access to healthcare information and services using advocacy, research and technology. They are hiring an NLP Engineer to design and develop natural language processing solutions that support their data analysis, research and digital health initiatives. The role is based in Ibadan, Oyo and is full-time. The position involves working with a multidisciplinary team to apply NLP techniques to health and social research questions and to preprocess large amounts of unstructured text data.
What you would do
- Document methodologies and maintain reproducible workflows
- Collaborate with the research team to apply NLP techniques to health and social research questions
- Evaluate and improve model performance and accuracy
- Pre-process and analyse large volumes of unstructured text data
- Develop and fine-tune NLP models for text classification, sentiment analysis, information extraction, and related tasks
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science or a related field
- Experience applying NLP in health or social science contexts is an advantage
- Proficiency in Python and NLP libraries/frameworks (e.g., spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers)
- Strong understanding of language modelling and text data pipelines
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in NLP or related machine learning work
