Nephrology Nurse (Double Qualified)
About this role
A full‑time Nephrology Nurse (Double Qualified) is being recruited for the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Kubwa, Abuja. The role supports kidney care within a faith‑based facility that provides general health services and aims to improve access in rural areas. The nurse will work with renal physicians and other specialists to manage dialysis procedures and renal therapies. The position requires prior renal or dialysis unit experience and appropriate nursing credentials. The employer seeks candidates who can handle clinical duties, patient counselling, and adherence to SOPs and infection control guidelines.
What you would do
- Cannulate and manage AV fistulas, grafts, and central venous dialysis catheters with aseptic technique
- Deliver medications such as erythropoiesis‑stimulating agents and electrolytes and manage related complications
- Initiate, monitor, and terminate haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis procedures; manage CRRT in critical care
- Collaborate with renal physicians, dietitians, social workers, and transplant coordinators
- Evaluate vital signs, fluid balance, weight, lab values, and symptoms before, during, and after treatments
- Maintain accurate clinical records, incident reports and ensure SOPs and infection control are followed
- Counsel patients on renal diets, fluid restrictions, treatment options, transplantation, and long‑term management
- Support nursing care planning and patient education for dialysis and kidney care
- Assist in monitoring and adjusting treatment plans based on patient response
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and quality standards
What they are asking for
- 3 to 5 years of proven clinical experience in a dedicated renal or dialysis unit
- Valid practicing licence from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
- Proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and operation of haemodialysis equipment
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc/BNSC)
- Membership of the Nigeria Association of Nephrology Nurses (NANNO) is preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife (RN/RM)
- Strong communication, crisis management under stress, emotional intelligence and patience
