Molecular Pathologist
About this role
The role is for a Molecular Pathologist at The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Lagos. The successful candidate will lead and deliver advanced molecular diagnostic services to support precision medicine by performing and interpreting tests for cancers, infectious diseases, genetic disorders and other conditions, and oversee all aspects of the molecular pathology laboratory including test development, quality assurance and reporting.
What you would do
- Perform and supervise a range of molecular diagnostic tests, including PCR, real-time PCR, next-generation sequencing, Sanger sequencing, FISH and fragment analysis
- Interpret complex molecular results and correlate with clinical, histological and immunohistochemical findings
- Develop, optimise and validate new molecular assays and establish SOPs and reference ranges
- Ensure quality assurance and regulatory compliance, implement QC/QA programmes, maintain documentation, and participate in audits
- Lead and manage the molecular pathology team and provide training and mentorship to staff and trainees
- Collaborate with clinicians and researchers on translational projects and contribute to biomarker development
What they are asking for
- Medical degree (MBBS/MD) or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field
- Board Certification or Fellowship in Molecular Pathology or equivalent international certification
- Valid medical licence to practise in Nigeria (or eligible to obtain one)
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in molecular pathology or molecular diagnostics with expertise in NGS, PCR, FISH, and Sanger sequencing
- Demonstrated experience in assay development, validation, quality assurance (ISO 15189/CAP/CLIA) and laboratory management
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals is desirable; experience in training staff and presenting at scientific conferences is an added advantage
