Medical Physicist (Nuclear Medicine)

About this role

The African Medical Centre of Excellence Abuja is seeking a Medical Physicist specialising in Nuclear Medicine to ensure the safe, accurate and effective use of radioactive materials and nuclear imaging for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The role includes optimising protocols, overseeing radiation protection and providing expert clinical support to deliver high-quality patient care. It targets a candidate with at least five years of clinical experience in a Nuclear Medicine department.

What you would do

• Design and optimise nuclear medicine protocols for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures.
• Oversee radiation safety and perform dosimetry calculations to ensure safe, accurate patient doses.
• Conduct QA and calibration of PET/CT and SPECT/CT equipment and lead safety audits.
• Manage radiopharmaceuticals, including safe handling, storage, dosing calculations, and administration guidance.
• Analyse imaging data (PET, SPECT, scintigraphy) and support clinicians with interpretation and treatment planning.
• Participate in clinical trials and research, contribute to protocol development, and train staff on physics principles.

• Minimum of five years of clinical experience as a Medical Physicist in a Nuclear Medicine department.
• Hands-on experience with acceptance testing, commissioning, and QC of SPECT/CT and PET/CT systems.
• Expertise in radiation safety and internal dosimetry calculations.
• Experience in research, protocol development and staff mentoring.
• Master’s or PhD in Medical Physics specialising in Nuclear Medicine or related field.
• Certification in Medical Physics from a recognised national or international board is highly desirable.
