What you would do

• Receive, prepare, culture and analyse clinical specimens (blood, urine, swabs, sputum, and other fluids)
• Identify microorganisms using microscopy, culture, biochemical and automated methods
• Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing and report clinically significant results
• Maintain quality-control procedures, equipment calibration, reagent stock and accurate records
• Review, validate and communicate test results within procedures and turnaround targets
• Escalate critical or unusual findings to clinicians or laboratory lead
• Follow infection-prevention, biosafety, waste disposal and safety requirements
• Participate in internal and external quality assurance and continuous improvement activities
• Support training and supervision of interns, students or junior staff when required
• Contribute to laboratory safety, documentation and teamwork

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a closely related discipline
• Current professional licence/registration as required by the regulatory body
• 2 to 4 years post NYSC experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory; post-qualification experience preferred
• Sound knowledge of bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, specimen processing and antimicrobial susceptibility testing
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems and quality-management practices an advantage
• Strong technical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage priorities

• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
