What you would do

• Maintain quality-control procedures and equipment calibration
• Prepare, culture and analyse clinical specimens
• Identify microorganisms using microscopy, culture, and automated methods
• Escalate critical findings to clinicians or the laboratory lead
• Review and communicate test results within turnaround-time targets
• Support training and supervision of interns or junior staff
• Participate in internal quality assurance and external quality assessment activities
• Follow infection-prevention, biosafety, waste disposal and safety requirements
• Perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing and report clinically significant results
• Maintain accurate laboratory records

What they are asking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a closely related discipline
• 2 to 4 years post NYSC experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory (post-qualification experience preferred)
• Current professional licence/registration as required by the regulatory body
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems and quality-management practices is an advantage
• Strong knowledge of bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and antimicrobial susceptibility testing
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities
• Ability to work independently and in a team
