Mechanical Technician

A Mechanical Technician role based in Lagos, for Prima Corporations Limited, a leading manufacturer of preforms and caps in West Africa. The job involves installing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing high-speed mechanical systems, injection moulding machinery and related packaging equipment. The role supports Husky and SACMI IPS 400 systems and auxiliary drying and dehumidification utilities to maximise plant uptime and production efficiency. It targets candidates with hands-on experience in high-volume PET preform manufacturing and relevant mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic skills. What you would do
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on Husky and SACMI IPS 400 machines to reduce downtime.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and servo-driven system failures under production timelines.
- Maintain and repair high-speed robotic take-out mechanisms and related systems (Husky CoolPik and SACMI belt-free assemblies).
- Disassemble, rebuild and reinstall high-wear components such as hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders and accumulators.
- Change multi-cavity PET molds and ensure precise alignment of platens and tie-bars.
- Service hot runner manifolds, gates, seals and heater bands to prevent leaks and thermal degradation.
- Monitor and maintain resin drying systems to achieve stable dew point and prevent PET hydrolysis.
- Operate and maintain mold dehumidifiers to prevent condensation on mould faces.
- Inspect and regulate mold chilled-water loops for proper flow and pressure; ensure leak-free interfaces.
- Document maintenance actions and component changes in the CMMS software and maintain accurate logs.
What they are asking for
- BSc, HND or OND in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a high-volume industrial manufacturing setting
- Experience with PET preform injection moulding equipment
- Proficiency in high-pressure hydraulics and pneumatics
- Knowledge of servo-driven systems and Husky CoolPik and SACMI IPS 400 equipment
- Experience managing desiccant resin dryers and mould dehumidifiers
- Ability to lift heavy components and climb ladders
- Ability to work in warm plant environments
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and preventive/corrective maintenance skills
- Committed to safety practices including LOTO and risk mitigation
