Market & Enterprise Development Specialist

About this role

The role reports to the National Programme Lead and sits within the SEPTP implementation team. It provides technical leadership and coordinates delivery across enterprise development, financial inclusion and market systems within the poultry sector. The post involves enabling access to affordable finance and insurance, helping poultry enterprises grow and attract investment, improving market access and offtake, and monitoring financing and enterprise performance across the programme’s financial mechanisms.

What you would do

• Coordinate enterprise development, market systems and financial inclusion activities for the poultry sector.
• Facilitate access to affordable finance and insurance for participants.
• Support poultry enterprises to become investment-ready and commercially viable.
• Strengthen market access, aggregation and offtake arrangements.
• Monitor financing and enterprise performance across bank loans, the SEPTP revolving fund and insurance mechanisms.
• Act as the technical link between implementation teams and financing/market partners.
• Ensure the financial inclusion and market development model operates as designed and remains viable.
• Collaborate with clusters, partners, Cooperatives/VSLA, and Market-Actor Partners to deliver outputs.
• Coordinate with Livestock, Partnership and Policy Influencing, Finance, MEAL, GESI and State Coordinators under programme delivery accountability.
• Contribute to wider programme goals beyond the life of the project.

What they are asking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Development Economics, Banking or related field.
• Master’s degree or recognised professional finance qualification (ACCA, CFA, ICAN) is desirable.
• At least 7 years of experience in market systems development, enterprise development, financial inclusion or private-sector development, preferably in agribusiness or rural/MSME finance.
• Experience designing or managing enterprise pathways, market linkages, offtake arrangements and commercial partnerships across multi-actor programmes.
• Strong commercial and financial analysis skills (enterprise modelling, unit economics, working-capital analysis, portfolio projections).
• Proven ability to coordinate complex delivery across partners and multiple workstreams.
• Understanding of youth employment, entrepreneurship and inclusive business approaches.
• Commitment to gender equity, disability inclusion and safeguarding; ability to design inclusive approaches.
• Ability to manage multiple partner relationships and priorities across wide geography with good organisational skills.
• Desirable: experience with blended finance or revolving fund mechanisms, experience with banks/MFIs, cooperatives or VSLAs, practical market systems development in agriculture, poultry or livestock value chains, and working with impact investors or DFIs.
