About this role
The Local Plant Operator role at Egbin Power Plc involves monitoring assigned power generating units through routine patrols, field inspections, and operational activities to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The incumbent identifies abnormalities, reports issues, and executes field instructions from the Control Room in accordance with SOPs and safety requirements. Duties include patrolling boilers, turbines, condensers and related systems; operating manual field equipment; monitoring auxiliary systems; implementing start-up and shutdown procedures; and participating in safety drills and reporting. The position supports maintenance teams, provides handover reports, and assists with field assessments and troubleshooting. It is suitable for candidates with basic technical knowledge in power generation and hands-on experience in industrial plants or steam turbine operations. The employer operates a major power generation facility in Lagos and emphasises safety, compliance, and teamwork.
What you would do
- Patrol assigned boiler, turbine, condenser, feedwater, cooling and auxiliary systems.
- Check for leaks, unusual noises, vibrations, temperature and pressure changes.
- Identify and report safety hazards, faults or irregularities in operations.
- Operate manual field equipment such as valves, pumps, and drain/vent systems.
- Monitor fuel supply, cooling water, and lubrication systems.
- Follow field procedures to start up or shut down plant equipment.
- Adhere to safety protocols and participate in risk assessments and drills.
- Keep own area clean and free of hazards and maintain housekeeping standards.
- Record equipment status and interventions in the shift logbook.
- Communicate plant conditions and field actions to the control room and provide handover reports for new shifts.

- Minimum of OND or technical certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Plant Engineering.
- 0 to 2+ years of experience in a power generation plant, refinery or heavy industrial setting.
- Prior exposure to steam turbine operations or thermal power plants is an advantage.
