Local Capacity Strengthening/Health Workforce Development Officer
About this role
The Local Capacity Strengthening/Health Workforce Development Officer will assist the specialist in assessing needs, designing and delivering training, and building systems for health workers and local partners in Niger. The role focuses on stakeholder engagement with government, mentorship, and monitoring donor-funded project progress, requiring public health expertise and strong coordination and reporting skills.
What you would do
- Conduct capacity assessments of health systems and workforce to identify gaps and inform training plans.
- Develop or adapt training modules, curricula, and capacity-building plans for various health cadres (CHWs, nurses, etc.).
- Plan, coordinate and deliver training sessions, NTOTs, workshops and mentorship for health workers and partners.
- Collaborate with Ministries of Health, NGOs, local authorities and international bodies to align activities and build partnerships.
- Provide expert guidance on HRH, programme implementation and quality improvement; monitor and report progress.
- Maintain training records, track outcomes, and document lessons learned for donor-funded projects.
What they are asking for
- Bachelor's degree with 4–6 years of relevant experience; or Master's with 2–4 years; or Doctorate with 0–2 years in public health, health administration, development or related field.
- Experience in capacity building and health workforce development, ideally in donor-funded projects (NGO/public sector).
- Knowledge of CHW programmes, adult learning, M&E, and HRH.
- Strong communication, coordination, analytical, strategic thinking, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience with data collection/analysis; ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
- Desirable: Master Trainer certification (e.g., iCCM) and/or experience with e-learning/digital health tools; experience with specific health areas.
