Legal Associate
About this role
A contract-focused legal role based in Abuja with hybrid work options. The position supports court and client representation, drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts across technology, energy, infrastructure and finance matters. It involves research, preparing memoranda and opinions, and assisting in both litigation and transactional work while coordinating with senior lawyers and clients. The role requires managing case files, ensuring compliance with laws and standards, and contributing to knowledge management within the firm.
What you would do
- Assist in court and client representation
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and related documents
- Conduct legal research and analyse statutes, case law and regulations
- Prepare memoranda, opinions and briefings for internal and client use
- Support litigation and transactional work
- Manage case files and coordinate with senior lawyers
- Communicate with clients and internal stakeholders
- Attend meetings and hearings as required
- Contribute to knowledge management and process improvements
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and standards
What they are asking for
- Minimum 2.1 in BL or LLB
- 2 years post-call experience if applicable
- Strong foundation in law covering commercial, regulatory and transactional matters
- Proficiency in legal document preparation including contracts, pleadings and opinions
- Analytical skills to interpret statutes, regulations and case law
- Effective written and verbal communication and teamwork
- Qualified and licensed to practise law with experience in corporate, commercial or finance practice
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment and manage multiple matters
- High professional ethics, attention to detail and commitment to continuous learning
- Familiarity with legal tech tools and document management; experience in technology, energy or finance sectors is an advantage
