Lead Welding Services role with Scruples Resources based in Lagos. The position involves leading and supervising welding activities for piping, pressure vessels, structural steel, pipelines and mechanical equipment, ensuring compliance with approved welding procedures, specifications and project schedules, and coordinating with related teams. It seeks a candidate with substantial welding supervision experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline, fabrication or construction sectors.
What you would do
- Lead and supervise welding activities for piping, vessels, structural steel, pipelines and mechanical equipment in line with drawings, procedures, specifications and project schedules.
- Verify welder qualifications and ensure personnel are qualified for the processes and positions assigned.
- Manage welding consumables and ensure traceability through storage, handling, issuing and record keeping.
- Coordinate welding with piping, mechanical, structural, QA/QC, NDT and construction teams, and monitor welding parameters, preheat, interpass temperature and post-weld requirements.
- Oversee welding processes (SMAW, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW, SAW) and ensure required preheating and post-weld heat treatment where specified.
- Coordinate visual inspection and NDT activities, review results and arrange repairs; maintain daily progress and quality records; lead toolbox talks and ensure adherence to HSE, PTW, JSA/JHA, hot-work and confined-space requirements.
What they are asking for
- HND or Bachelor's degree, welding trade qualification or equivalent in Welding Technology, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication or related field.
- Extensive experience in welding supervision within the oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, pipeline, fabrication or construction sectors.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, procedures, materials and weld inspection requirements; experience with WPS, PQR, welder qualification records, weld maps and traceability.
- Familiarity with standards such as ASME, API, AWS and ISO, and with project-specific requirements.
- Relevant welding or inspection certifications such as CSWIP, AWS or IIW, or equivalent, would be an advantage.
- Experience coordinating welders, fabricators, NDT personnel, QA/QC inspectors and contractors; strong leadership, planning, coordination, reporting and problem-solving skills; good understanding of HSE and hot-work controls.
