Lead Electrical and Grid Engineer

About this role

A contract Lead Electrical & Grid Engineer is sought to act as the technical authority for the plant’s electrical systems and grid connections for a greenfield 600 MW lignite-fired power project in Delta State. The role targets experienced engineers with extensive power generation or transmission design experience, including grid connection work with Nigerian authorities, and is open to resident or international candidates.

What you would do

• Plan how the plant and SEZ network operate together, including frequency, voltage, load shedding and island operation.
• Specify and oversee electrical equipment and systems such as generators, transformers, switchgear, DC/UPS and emergency supplies.
• Design the private 132 kV SEZ network and the 33 kV mine supply.
• Support licensing, contracts and review the Owner’s Engineer’s electrical work.
• Lead technical bid evaluations and develop electrical design basis, diagrams and load lists.
• Lead the grid-connection work with TCN and define switchyard and transmission requirements for grid connection.

What they are asking for

• COREN registration or eligibility within three months of starting (international candidates: COREN temporary registration supported).
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• BEng or BSc in Electrical/Electrical Electronic Engineering.
• Experience with 330 kV or 132 kV substations and specifying generators/step-up transformers.
• Working knowledge of ETAP, PSS/E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory and IEC standards.
• At least 12 years in power generation or transmission, with 5+ years in electrical design or grid connection on 100 MW+ projects.
