Laboratory Supervisor - Chemist

About this role

Nestlé Nigeria is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor - Chemist to oversee the Chemistry Laboratory and product compliance at the Abaji factory. The role provides technical chemistry support to factory operations, ensures Good Laboratory Practice and laboratory safety, and supports product release and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include coordinating routine chemical analyses, supporting production with troubleshooting, and managing contamination monitoring and compliance programmes. The position requires collaboration with various factory functions and may involve interaction with third-party labs and regulatory bodies. Applicants should have a science degree and hands-on analytical chemistry experience within a manufacturing or regulated lab setting.

What you would do

• Coordinate routine chemical analysis for finished products, in-line controls, raw materials and packaging materials.
• Ensure laboratory methods, equipment calibration and controls support accurate, timely results.
• Provide technical troubleshooting support to Production and Application teams on mineral preparation, conductivity and recipe issues.
• Coordinate product compliance activities and contaminant monitoring programmes.
• Monitor compliance results and escalate risks to protect product safety and regulatory compliance.
• Drive Good Laboratory Practice and laboratory safety, including self-assessment and audit readiness.
• Act as HAZMAT lead for chemical spill preparedness and drills.
• Support HACCP reviews, internal audits and ISO/NMS requirements.
• Maintain quality systems and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, R&D and external partners to resolve chemistry and compliance issues.

What they are asking for

• BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Food Engineering, Biochemistry, Food Science/Technology or related field.
• Hands-on analytical chemistry capability in a manufacturing or regulated laboratory environment.
• Knowledge of GLP, product compliance, laboratory management and verification/audit requirements.
• Familiarity with analytical and problem-solving tools (SPC, DMAIC, Fishbone, root-cause analysis).
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SAP experience is advantageous.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to work across functions.
• Experience in training/coaching others and coordinating support staff is an advantage.
• Knowledge of HACCP, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001:2015, HAZMAT/chemical safety and related systems is beneficial.
