IT Application Subject Matter Expert
About this role
Airtel is seeking an IT Application Subject Matter Expert in Lagos to drive full-stack projects as an individual contributor. The role involves leading design, development and deployment of scalable, secure applications using Python, Node.js/JavaScript, and Flutter, with cloud-native delivery on Kubernetes, Docker, and Rancher. You will work on backend services, APIs, and mobile/web front ends, plus database engineering across MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle, while upholding coding standards and engineering practices. Responsibilities span designing and implementing backend and full-stack solutions, building secure APIs and microservices, creating responsive front ends, and managing cloud deployments and CI/CD pipelines with monitoring and security considerations. The position requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders and ongoing focus on code quality, testing, documentation and knowledge sharing.
What you would do
- Lead design and implementation of backend and full-stack solutions using Python, Node.js/JavaScript and Flutter
- Translate requirements into technical designs, estimates and delivery plans
- Build and maintain secure RESTful APIs, microservices and integrations
- Develop responsive mobile and web front ends aligned to UX and performance standards
- Design and optimize database solutions across MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle
- Own data modelling, query tuning, indexing and migrations for complex projects
- Drive cloud-native deployments with Kubernetes, Docker and Rancher
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with monitoring, logging and alerting
- Enforce coding standards, conduct reviews and ensure testing coverage
- Produce technical documentation and runbooks; mentor engineers

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Strong expertise in Python and JavaScript (Node.js) and Flutter
- Experience with databases including MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes/Rancher
- Knowledge of microservices, APIs, CI/CD, Git and DevOps
- Experience with Linux production environments and troubleshooting
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-team collaboration skills
- Certifications such as CKA/CKAD, Cloud Developer (AWS/Azure/GCP), MongoDB or Oracle are a plus
